What to Expect

The Assessment Process

A clear, structured pathway from first contact to final report — designed to reduce uncertainty and support families at every stage.

We understand that seeking a psychological assessment for your child can feel daunting. Our process is designed to be transparent, collaborative, and as straightforward as possible — so you always know what to expect and why.

01

Initial Enquiry

1–2 working days

Submit your enquiry using the online form or by contacting us directly. We will respond within two working days to acknowledge your request and gather some initial information about your child's needs.

  • Complete the short intake form with your child's name, age, and reason for referral
  • We review your enquiry and confirm whether we can take on the assessment
  • You receive a response within two working days with next steps

There is no obligation at this stage. If we are not the right fit, we will do our best to point you in the right direction.

02

Intake Consultation

60–90 minutes

Before any formal testing begins, we conduct a thorough intake consultation with parents or guardians in-person or virtually. This is a confidential conversation to understand your child's developmental history, current concerns, and what you hope to learn from the assessment.

  • Detailed discussion of your child's developmental, medical, and educational history
  • Review of any previous reports, school feedback, or professional observations
  • Agreement on the assessment pathway and tools to be used
  • Opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns

Children do not typically attend the intake consultation — this is a parent/guardian session.

03

Assessment Sessions

1–3 sessions depending on assessment type

Your child attends one or more structured assessment sessions at our Echternach practice. Sessions are conducted in a calm, child-friendly environment and are paced to suit your child's age, attention, and temperament.

  • Standardised, validated assessment tools appropriate to the referral question
  • Sessions typically last 1-3 hours with breaks as needed
  • Parents are welcome to wait on-site and are briefed at the end of each session
  • Rating scales and questionnaires may be sent to parents and teachers to complete between sessions

Most children find the sessions engaging rather than stressful — the tasks are designed to feel more like activities than tests.

04

Scoring & Report Writing

2–3 weeks

Following the assessment sessions, all data is scored, interpreted, and integrated into a comprehensive written report. This stage takes time — thoroughness is essential to ensure the report is accurate, defensible, and genuinely useful.

  • All test scores are calculated and interpreted against age-normed reference data
  • Findings are integrated with developmental history, observations, and collateral information
  • A full written report is prepared with clear findings and diagnosis where applicable
  • Practical recommendations are developed for school, home, and any indicated follow-up support

We do not rush this stage. A well-written report is the most important deliverable of the entire process.

05

Feedback Session

60 minutes

Once the report is complete, we meet with parents to walk through the findings in plain language. This is a two-way conversation — we explain what the results mean, answer your questions, and discuss how to use the report to support your child going forward.

  • Full verbal explanation of assessment findings and any diagnosis
  • Discussion of recommendations and how to implement them at home and school
  • Guidance on sharing the report with schools, paediatricians, or other professionals
  • Written report provided at or following the feedback session

Older children and adolescents may be included in the feedback session where appropriate and with parental agreement.

Typical Timeline

From initial enquiry to receiving your final report, most assessments are completed within four to eight weeks. The exact duration depends on the type of assessment, session availability, and how quickly collateral information (such as teacher questionnaires) is returned.
